Donald Trump, saying he is “very much inclined” to run for president, told about 300 Granite Staters at New England College on Monday afternoon that Hillary Clinton’s actions involving her family’s foundation are “criminal.”

Most in the audience at NEC’s Great Hall at the Simon Center were students. The real estate mogul held their attention for nearly an hour in the third of a four-stop visit. College officials said it was one the largest crowds ever for an event in the center.

Trump said his fellow Republicans are responding to allegations involving Clinton with “such weakness. But they’re probably in the same position so they don’t want to be too tough.”

NEC political science professor Wayne Lesperance said Trump “has never been as serious as he is now.” Lesperance noted Trump has hired staff in the state and nationally, has visited the state several times, has made more stops than he did in his prior two flirtations with running and is in the process of renting office space in Manchester.

“This is all different,” Lesperance said. “How does he measure up against the other candidates? With 20 people in the race, there is definitely a niche for him to carve out. At some point, though, you’ve got to get past the brand and the celebrity and get into some of the specific issues.”
