President Trump Did More in 40 Minutes Than Joe Biden Did In 40 Years
President Trump today showed the American people what leadership is, working with law enforcement and community leaders to pursue safe policing and safe communities, and to turn Americans’ anger into action. The President signed a strong executive order, which sets the “highest professional standards” for law enforcement officers, while promoting “peace and dignity and equality for all Americans.”
“Law enforcement officers provide the essential protection that all Americans require to raise their families and lead productive lives,” reads the executive order in part. “The relationship between our fellow citizens and law enforcement officers is an important element in their ability to provide that protection. By working directly with their communities, law enforcement officers can help foster a safe environment where we all can prosper.”
The order, among other things, bans chokeholds except in situations where the use of deadly force is allowed by law, creates a national database of police misconduct, and provides supplemental funding for police departments which meet prescribed criteria.
In contrast, Joe Biden spent decades building up the systems of mass incarceration that have decimated Black communities then failed to make any meaningful changes during his eight years as Vice President. The Obama-Biden “21st Century Policing” task force, launched in 2014, was a clear failure. By May 2016, just 15 police departments out of 18,000 had signed on to the Obama-Biden police reforms initiative, which “failed to put muscle behind the rhetoric” and “failed to attack the heart of the problem.”
Even Trump administration critics are praising today’s order, which is a clear reversal of Joe Biden’s record of failure. As President Trump put it, “Obama and Biden didn’t fix this during their eight year period because they didn’t know how.” All Joe Biden has proven good at is finding new ways to throw people into prison and stoke racial divisions while failing to keep his promises to fix the problems he himself created. While Democrats lurch farther and farther to the left with their radical and dangerous movements to “Defund the Police,” the best Joe Biden could offer is a weak-voiced opposition while letting Ilhan Omar, Cory Booker, Kamala Harris, and others generate further momentum for the movement.
