Trump Spending $5 Million Less Than Obama On White House Salaries

It’s no surprise the businessman is doing more with less compared to his predecessor, a community organizer. A report on White House salaries shows that President Trump is spending $5 million less a year on staff than Obama.

According to an analysis by Open The Books, the Obama administration employed 476 people in 2015 at a cost of $40.9 million. This year, the Trump White House is employing just 377 staffers at a cost of $35.8 million. Where is President Trump cutting the fat?

Trump is discontinuing Obama’s practice of appointing numerous “czars” to oversee special initiatives, and he’s reducing the number of expensive fellowship programs in the White House. Currently, the highest compensated staffer is Senior Policy Adviser Mark House, taking in $187,500. Obama’s highest paid employee was David Marcozzi at $193,000. Prominent advisers Ivanka Trump and Jared Kushner are not accepting salaries for their roles. Donald Trump has also refused to accept a salary – the president promises to accept one dollar and give the rest back to the U.S. Treasury.

Outside of Trump’s inner circle, Melania is also working to reduce wasteful spending. The First Lady only employs four people: a chief of staff, a deputy chief of staff, a scheduler and a communications director. Laura Bush managed 18 staffers during her tenure. In her first year of living in the White House, Michelle Obama squandered taxpayer dollars on a bloated staff of 24.

The CEO of Open The Books, Adam Andrzejewski, predicts a four-year savings total of $22 million.

While the savings are a fraction of the trillions in debt the country holds, Andrzejewski believes Trump’s lean administration is a testament to his commitment to cutting waste and saving taxpayer money.
