What is a Caucus?
The Nevada Republican Presidential Caucus is organized by the Nevada Republican Party and is the official process by which presidential candidates can earn delegates to secure the Republican nomination. Local meetings are held in every precinct in Nevada beginning at 5:00 PM on Caucus Night (February 8th). Voters can arrive any time between 5:00-7:30 PM but they must attend to cast their vote!
Since 1984, Nevada Republicans have chosen their presidential nominee using the caucus process. They will continue to use that process this year. Republican candidates had to choose whether to run in the “meaningless primary” on Tuesday, February 6 or participate in the Nevada Republican Caucus on Thursday, February 8 from which a candidate can earn delegates to secure the official Republican nomination.
President Trump chose to run in the Thursday, February 8 caucus in order to earn delegates and continue his march to become the official Republican nominee for President.
The caucus is more secure, transparent, and empowering for rank-and-file Republican voters that want to choose their nominee without the fraud and abuse of universal mail-ballot primaries.
